Names We Call Ourselves is a survivor-centered initiative focused on the Troubled Teen Industry, with particular attention to Internet addiction and behavior-correction institutions in China. We create a space for survivors to document what happened to them and bring experiences hidden behind institutional walls into public view. Through research and public education, we work to expose harmful practices while connecting those affected with legal support. Our goal is to challenge systems that allow institutional abuse to continue and strengthen protections for young people.
“戒网瘾学校”并非法律上的正式名称，而是社会公众对一类以“戒除网络成瘾”“行为矫正”“军事化管理”“素质教育”等名义开展封闭式教育机构的统称。这类机构也常以“特训学校”“行为矫正学校”“成长教育基地”等名称进行招生。
我国未成年人专门教育制度可追溯至1955年建立的工读学校。2020年修订的《中华人民共和国预防未成年人犯罪法》建立了专门教育制度，依法设立的专门学校成为国家未成年人教育体系的重要组成部分。与此同时，自21世纪初以来，随着互联网普及和“网络成瘾”概念的传播，大量民办戒网瘾学校及行为矫正机构相继出现，其招生对象逐渐扩展至厌学、亲子冲突、早恋等被认为存在“行为问题”的青少年。
近年来，多起媒体调查、司法案件及幸存者证言反映，部分机构在管理过程中存在限制人身自由、体罚、侮辱等涉嫌侵犯未成年人合法权益的行为，引发社会对相关机构监管、未成年人保护及专门教育制度的广泛讨论。
它利用家庭矛盾牟利，游走于监管与法律的空白地带，限制未成年人的自由、剥夺他们最基本的权利——并把这一切包装成「为你好」。
